Research Interests: Latin American culture, Cuban studies, nudity, sexuality, narratives of desire, masculinities, psychoanalysis, visual arts, cinema, queer literature.

Rubens Riol is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Princeton University. He holds a BA in Art History from the University of Havana, Cuba. After graduating, he taught courses on History of Art and Literature, Latin American Art, and Cuban Art for six years in San Geronimo College. He also coordinated Proyecto Equilátero, a film club devoted to cultural diversity. He is the author of “La caricia del látigo. Rufo Caballero: Un ídolo imposible" (Ed. ICAIC, 2016), and “El entierro de las consignas. Textos críticos sobre arte cubano" (Ed. Hypermedia, 2018). In recent years he has collaborated as columnist for El Nuevo Herald, Cine Cubano, and Hypermedia Magazine.
