Maya is a senior concentrating in Civil and Environmental Engineering and pursuing a certificate in Latin American Studies. She has been involved with Princeton Engineers Without Borders, Kenya Team since her freshmen year, working on water projects with rural communities in the Kuria West District. In 2019, Maya received a Paul E. Sigmund Scholars Award to conduct research in the Corozal District of Belize, interviewing residents about their experiences with changes in their environment. Through her experiences, Maya has developed interests in issues of water resources, coastal resiliency and the intersection of engineering and community-based work. For her thesis, she is studying mangroves for flood risk reduction with the hope of improving their application for coastal communities.
