Joel Cintrón Arbasetti (M.A., Communication Theory and Research, University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras). Cintrón Arbasetti is a journalist working for Centro de Periodismo Investigativo in Puerto Rico. His journalistic investigations focus on Puerto Rico’s debt, economic and fiscal crisis, and politics and urban developments. He also writes about independent music and subcultural life. In 2016, he published the book El Local, a narrative journalism work about an alternative cultural space in Santurce. He has participated in various fellowships and workshops at the Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano Gabriel García Márquez, Columbia University, CUNY University, Chicago Tribune, and the International Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE). He has received awards for his work at the Centro de Periodismo Investigativo from the Puerto Rico Journalists Association and the Overseas Press Club. While at Princeton, Cintrón Arbasetti will work on an essay about the electronic music produced in the recording studio of the División de Educación de la Comunidad (DIVEDCO) during the 50’s. This will be the first chapter of his book about the history of experimental electronic music in Puerto Rico.
